Below are images which show the locations that we plan to use within our soap trailer, many of the locations we have selected are based on our storyline or 'drug issues', this is because we feel it is a significant matter which many of our target audience (male & female aged 16-24) may be able to relate to as many young adults and teens may experience drugs through social interactions, or through peer pressure.
We felt that it was important to include locations from our town. This is why we have heavily focused almost all of our scene within our trailer within the St. Neots high street, not only does it show a close knit community, it also displayed the spacial context of our local town which we felt would make our soap feel more realistic as we would be able to catch local passersby that would make each shot seem more realistic
.
Image 1: Communal Sitting AreaAs all soaps have communal areas, we thought we would try and include one within our drug scene in order to connote that drug issues can happen in places you'd least expect.
We also chose this location as it is located beside a river which runs through the town which would show spacial context.
Also as this setting is below street level it would enable us to have a variety of camera angles and shots for the scene.
The main purpose for using the town bridge is because it may offer a good natural lighting within the walkway which passes beneath the bridge. This would make the drug scene have a better lighting affect and the dim lighting under the bridge would also connote the negativity of the drug story line.
The alley which is located beside a Clarks store on the high-street offered a good scene for our drug scene. We though that the natural lighting was useful and similar to the natural lighting beneath the bridge.
Also it would be better for shooting the drug exchange as we would be able to capture the a long shot of the character approaching the dealer which is seen though a point of view shot.
All of the other locations which we planned to use are all communal areas, homes, and businesses (betting store) this was in order to create realism as well as introducing characters from the soap.
In order to show the issues of finance we opted for a from of betting as we felt our target audience (16-24) would not be facing major financial issues such as household bills.
We planned to use my house, as I was originally casted in the storyboard to include an ethnic storyline. My house was also chosen as the layout of the bedroom was suitable for shooting our wardrobe scene where I was getting ready. There is also an overview of the street through the window which we planned to show from my point of view to introduce a character who was passing by.
Image 6: Philip's House
Philip's house was used in order to include our storyline of relationship issues. We captured footage of his parents Penny and Martin, arguing in the kitchen.
We felt this was a good location as the kitchen had dimmer lighting which would connote the mood of the scene.
Image 7: Edward's House
As we decided to remove the wardrobe scene from the trailer in order to shorten the total runtime. This was a good location to use as we could clearly see Edward leaving his house. there was also a road which we used in order to change the storyline to the passerby which was helpful.
Image 8: Pig N The Falcon
As soaps such as Eastenders and our main competition Hollyoaks feature pubs as local communal areas, we wanted to use this location in order to link storylines together and emphasise a close knit community. However as we wanted to show issues we could not think of an issue which we could relate to the location with the characters we had.
